Mary Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School was founded in the year 1998 by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) of St. Joseph Province, Kottayam and is owned by the Mary Matha Educational & Charitable Society. The CMI Congregation, the first of its kind to originate from Indian soil, is a religious community of Catholic Priests committed to the ideals lived and preached by Jesus Christ. The CMI vision of education is "The formation of individuals into social persons fully human and fully alive". The CMI Congregation, right from its inception on 1831, took up education as special mission, following the 'charisma' of its founder, Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-1871) Mary Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School offers the curriculum and syllabus of Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board. Hindi and French are the other languages taught. The school, recognized by the Director of Matriculation Schools, Tamil Nadu, is a 10 + 2 co-educational school at sprawling and pristine educational campus, adjacent to the District Head Quarters and is away from the dust and din of the busy town of Theni, a trade centre of sorts. The academic fraternity of Mary Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School is dedicated to the Motto "STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE".
